St Brigid’s Special School is located at the top of a prominent hill in Dundalk adjacent to the Redeemer church. I always find it heartening that such a site is occupied by a building dedicated to those in our society that need that little bit of extra care. Historically castles and other buildings of political or military importance tended to occupy these sites so it is refreshing that a special needs school is given a commanding overview of the townscape... lest we forget!
Our principle involvement here was to replace and upgrade an existing felt roof and fascia detail (with zinc cladding) together with providing a lift and stairs in order to ensure universal access to all parts of a school disposed around three levels/storeys.
The zinc work involved two new rain screen canopies giving children and staff alike a chance to be outside during a rain shower.
