North Commons

North Commons, Carlingford, Co. Louth.

This site is on the lower slopes of the Carlingford Mountains overlooking the Lough of the same name. The mountain is to the west and the principal view to the east. The site was also very inclined.

The house is conceived as two parallel pitched roof blocks linked by the entrance. Changes in level were therefore accommodated as part of this 2-block approach.

Large glass areas were used in the living areas to capture views to the east but supplemented with west facing roof lights to facilitate solar gain.
